Long COVID

I'm grateful to be a part of this video for #MEAction's New Campaign for #LongCOVID: Stop. Rest. Pace.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, doctors are increasingly worried about the subset of people with “long COVID”. Months after contracting COVID-19, they have remained sick. While some may recover and others will likely be diagnosed with other post-viral diseases, many will fit the diagnostic criteria for ME.

If you’ve experienced any long-term illness, you already know that there are internal and external pressures to exercise, get back to work, and get back to normal. However, ME causes changes in our bodies that alter our once-healthy response to physical and cognitive exertion. The best activity management advice for ME is called pacing: resting when tired, and moving gently when able.

For those of us who have been fighting in the ME community for adequate treatment and care, our personal experience tells us that nothing is more important than the right activity management advice, especially early in the disease.
